My Road to Becoming an Editor
I am the current Video Editor/Marketing Associate for Athlon Optics in Olathe, KS. I have a B.A. from the University of Missouri in Film Production.
My journey into the world of editing began in early childhood while watching Blues Clues. The way the show integrated live-action actors with computer animated characters and backgrounds fascinated me. I asked my parents why "Steve can talk to cartoons", and that's when I found out about the green screen. This inspired me to find out what other tricks could be performed to create magic on the screen.
In elementary school, I joined the Production Crew. Everyday before school started, a small team of students would get together to read the daily news—typically with a humorous twist—then say the Pledge of Allegiance. This recording would then be played in all classrooms before we began lessons. Even though recordings never left the school's airwaves, in those moments, I felt like the people I used to see on TV.
Fast forward to high school where my biggest break happened: going to school across from the Career Center. The Career Center allowed students to take courses which branched out from the traditional courses most schools offered—with the added benefit that they count as credit towards graduation. Before my junior year, one course stood out to me: Digital Media. This course set the entire foundation for my knowledge of the entire Adobe Suite. With guidance from one of my favorite teachers in primary school, I quickly absorbed as much knowledge about Graphic Design and Video Editing as I could. My senior year, I took all three courses which branched off of Digital Media.
Following my interests in high school, it was no surprise that I would pursue a degree which would allow me to use my newly-found creative skills.
